The Understory House celebrates the rich and nostalgic territory under a Queenslander. The existing weatherboard house was moved to allow more northern light under the house and recycled hardwood posts were reinstated in the original locations with inverted king post trusses introduced to create larger spaces in some areas. The sitting, dining room and kitchen are loosely defined by steps in the floor, which also opens the rooms to the garden, a central part of the clients’ well-being.
