The design strategy was to abstract a basic shed into an off grid, comfortable modern home. The arrival is typically rural, by vehicle into a courtyard formed by 3 pavillions, a garage, sleeping wing and living pavillion. As the weather shifts from heavy rainfall to extended dry spells, the immediate landscape changes from lush rolling paddocks, to dry and sunburnt grasses. The canopy roof offers protection from the rain and provide shade from the glare and heat of the dryer months. The expressed frame is inspired by local shearing shed structures. The structure is modest yet expressive – a pragmatic regionalism.
